RSC International Undergraduate Research Bursary

A new initiative that aims to help foster links between the RSCs worldwide network of accredited universities.

In 2018 they will be piloting a new funding scheme for undergraduate students enrolled on RSC accredited degrees outside of the UK and Ireland. This scheme complements the existing RSC undergraduate research bursaries for students in the UK and Ireland.

The International Undergraduate Research Bursary will provide funding of up to £2,500 for an undergraduate student to travel to an accredited university in the UK or Ireland to carry out a short (6-10 week) research placement.  The funds will be used for travel, accommodation and subsistence. They will not be for bench fees or consumables.

This is an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of your department internationally, to attract new talent and to facilitate cultural exchange. Eligible students will be those in the penultimate year of the undergraduate studies. They will be enrolled on an RSC accredited degree, giving assurance to host supervisors that the students will be of a good standard.

The application process will be competitive. Two bursaries will be available in 2018, and the RSC hopes to be able to start accepting applications from the start of January 2018.

It will be up to the students to approach potential host supervisors, to agree a project and secure their place in the lab. The application for funding will be written by the student, with supporting information from the host supervisor and their home institution.

More details will follow soon, but in the meantime, please start to spread the word among your colleagues, who may be interested in hosting a student in 2018.

Please contact the RSC if you have any questions.
